This is an easy growing native shrub that is adapted to partial sun to bright shade. It is a loose shaped plant in shade and denser in sun. The pale pink / lavender flowers bore in the late spring or early summer attract a variety of pollinators and the showy purple berries in the fall attract songbirds as a food source. Beautyberry provides a distinct sense of season with the fall berries. The papery leaves provide a soft appearance in the growing season and it drops the leaves in the winter.
Beautyberry must have well drained soils but is very adaptable and easy to grow otherwise. Expect minor die back after planting. Simply cut away any branches that die back and the plant typically will compensate as it establishes and grows.
