This is one of the more widely distributed of the three wild coffee species native to Florida. It is a species that distinctively displays an interesting metalic sheen on the surface of the leaves. Like other coffee species, it has a display of musky smelling small flowers emitting a wonderful woodsy aroma. The flowers are followed by red berries in the fall. Many pollinating insects visit the flowers which are followed by birds feeding on the pollinators for protein during nesting season. Additionally, the berries are a food source for the birds later in the season. A very nice ornamental and wildlife friendly shrub for shaded gardens. Coffees will tolerate sun where the soil is moist enough.
Plant in shaded or partial sun where the soil is mostly moist or the soil has some organic composition. Keep well watered for establishment and supplement with watering during dry weather.
