Jaboticaba is a gorgeous small tree in the myrtle family, related and similiar in some ways to Florida's native Simpson Stopper. The fruit is a delicious grape like, sweet fruit that is bore several times a year on mature trees. It is great eaten as a frozen treat or fresh! The tree is very slow growing and slow to bear fruit, but is worth planting a larger tree or the patience to wait on the rewards. The tree has beautiful red peeling bark, evergreen leaves, and fragrant, small spidery flowers uniquely bore on the main trunk and stems of the tree, as is the fruit. The tree is a small tree that is typically upright with a narrow spread. This is a very worthwhile fruiting tree that requires patience!
Plant where the tree is sheltered from hard freezes in full sun exposure and keep well watered.
