The pink powderpuff is a large, multiple trunked, low-branching tree with a spreading, umbrella-shaped canopy. It has dainty, ferny leaflets which are glossy copper when new, turning to a rich dark green. The profuse, fragrant bloom is the main reason for its popularity. The powderpuff-like blossoms are quite large, 3-4" across, and beautifully bicolored in watermelon pink and pure white. Pink powderpuff blooms primarily in spring and early summer.
Pink powderpuff does best and flowers profusely in full sun. It will tolerate partial shade but flowering will be greatly reduced. It enjoys fertile, well-drained soil, acidic to slightly alkaline. The tree is drought-tolerant when established.
