This is a spectacular vine from Brazil, with long pendulous chains of fiery orange-red flowers that bloom from late fall through winter and early spring. The foliage is trifoliate and handsome in its own merit. The dwarf red jade vine is a strong, heavy vine needs a large support. A sturdy arbor is ideal so that the brilliant, dangling flowering racemes can hang down from the ceiling to create a magical effect.
This vine does best in partial shade and has a large appetite for both water and fertilizer. Rich, organic, well-drained soil suits it best. Fertilize it well both before and after blooming. As the vine blooms in fall and winter, pruning should be done in spring after the flowers fade, to avoid accidentally cutting off next year's flower buds.
