The University of Florida has developed high quality, low chilling, early maturing peach and nectarine cultivars that can be grown far into South Florida. Low-chilling cultivars can grow and produce fruit under Florida’s conditions that are much warmer in winter than in northern states. In addition to the delicious, juicy fruit, the plant produces a dazzling display of pale pink flowers in early spring, typically January to February in South Florida, making it highly ornamental.
Peach trees is usually on the small side, 10-12' tall and wide. They need a rich organic soil with lots of composted manure added prior to planting. They prefer a soil with 6.0-7.0 pH. Make sure you plant them in a well drained area. They cannot tolerate any flooding or standing water whatsoever.
